Celebrate the Small Things! and A to Z Challenge: More Fictional Favorites! Day 9: Indiana Jones

Celebrate the Small Things is a weekly celebration created by VikLit and now hosted by Lexa Cain to celebrate the happenings of the week, however small or large. You can learn all about it and sign up for it here. CelebrateSmallThings_Badge

This week, my son has been home sick with a bad cold for three days, but he’s finally feeling better, so I’m celebrating that and the fact that it looks like spring may finally be getting here. The temps are reaching into the 40s and 50s, and the snow is almost gone. Yay!

And now for today’s A to Z — A2Z-BADGE-0002015-LifeisGood-230_zps660c38a0

I is for — Indiana Jones

When I first saw the ad trailer for the movie, Raiders of the Lost Ark, I didn’t really catch what it was about, but thought it looked like it might be a good action movie. I went to see it, not expecting anything special, and got wowed. The adventure, the stunts, the humor, the snakes — I was hooked right from the first scene. In fact, I liked the movie so much I went back and saw it again the next day.

Indiana Jones, played by Harrison Ford, is such a cool character. He gets to travel the world to seek out priceless antiquities and live the adventures that people like me dream about. He survives by his ingenuity, his daring, and his bullwhip. He’s not one of those perfect characters who always wins, either. He’s had his share of heartbreak and defeat. He keeps going, though, with dogged determination, saving the treasures of the world for posterity.

My favorite quote from the movie is when Sallah asks Indy how he’s going to get the Ark back from the Germans. Indy utters his classic, well-thought-out line: “I don’t know. I’m making it up as I go.”

I’ve never been able to decide which movie I like better — Raiders or The Last Crusade. Sean Connery is excellent as Indy’s father, and their exchanges make the movie. I didn’t care for Temple of Doom. Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was better and marked the return of the awesome Karen Allen as Marion Ravenwood. Now, there’s another favorite character…

  1. Yay! I’m happy your baby is feeling better! ((HUGS)) Spring flowers, here we come! ❤

I remember watching Indiana Jones for the first time. Like you, I was certainly wowed, but I did not like the part where the bad guys got melted and killed by the creepy angels from the Arc. That scene still creeps me out and I *refuse* to watch that scene as well as my kids! 😉

  2. I’m sorry your son was sick, but it’s great to hear he’s doing well now. We had a terrible sandstorm here yesterday. I think we all deserve to have nice weather this week for a change. 🙂

  3. It’s never fun when somebody in the house gets sick. Glad your son is feeling better.

Raiders Of The Lost Ark is definitely my favorite Indiana Jones movie, although I’ve never seen Temple Of Doom or Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull.

  4. I’m glad your son’s feeling better! I remember seeing a behind-the-scenes documentary on Raiders, and they mentioned the scene where Indy is facing off with that crazy sword-wielding guy who’s showing off. Indy just looks at him and shoots him. It turns out he was supposed to do a lot more than that, but Ford was really ill that day (with food poisoning, I believe) and decided to just shoot. They liked it and kept it in. 🙂

  5. Indiana Jones! Yes!!!! Love him- and I may mean that in a crush-y way. Because he is totally drool-worthy. Look at all that stubble! Observe the intensity of that burning gaze! Um… I mean… AHEM… he is a great character and a man of Solid Worth. Yes. (Blushes).
