J is for — Captain Jack Sparrow from the Pirates of the Caribbean
Another favorite character in the good-hearted rogue category is Captain Jack Sparrow. Pirate, philanderer, and all-around scoundrel, Jack spends most of his time trying to talk his way out of whatever trouble he’s gotten himself into. His convoluted schemes leave you wondering whose side he’s on, but in truth, of course, he’s looking out for his own best interests.
Yet, every so often, that spark of goodness prevails, such as when he saves Elizabeth Swann from drowning in the first Pirates movie, Curse of the Black Pearl, and when he gives up his chance at immortality by helping the dying Will Turner stab the disembodied heart of Davy Jones, saving Will’s life, in World’s End. He again forfeits an opportunity for long life by giving the chalice with water from the Fountain of Youth and the mermaid’s tear to poisoned former flame, Angelica, instead of drinking it himself in the fourth Pirates movie, On Stranger Tides.
Of the four Pirates of the Caribbean movies, the first is by far the best, in my opinion. The others are okay, and each has its good moments, though in the fourth movie they are fewer and farther between. I read that a fifth movie, Dead Men Tell No Tales, is in the making, but that various delays, including script and budget problems, have pushed the release date to 2017. I hope they can get the series back on track and recapture the magic that made Curse of the Black Pearl so entertaining.

My sister and i were just talking about good old Jack the other day and how he’s a show stealing side character. haha! But you’re right. He has a lot of heart for a pirate.

That’s funny. It’s interesting how sometimes the supporting characters take over the show.

You’re such a sweetie. I appreciate your comments over on my blog!!!
As for Sparrow, I guess I’m mean. I can’t stand Johnny. I don’t like how the movie producer makes it all about him. I honestly thought that the series was going to be about Elizabeth and Will, but I was SO disappointed when Disney marooned them both and made it all about Jack. x(

I definitely liked the first movie the best with the focus on all three of them. It made for a better story.

A few weeks ago, I thought it would be a good idea to have a Pirates marathon. I looked all around for the movies only to realize that we didn’t own them. I was surprised, because I loved the series. This post is a great reminder that I have a birthday coming up 🙂

I’ve only seen the first two movie. I loved the first, and the second was not so good, so I haven’t continued with the rest. I watched the first one again recently and marvelled at how well it still holds up. “But where has the rum gone?” Ha. 🙂

Yes, the first one was definitely the best. 🙂

A fifth one? Why?
I liked the fourth better than the second and third. Probably because I’d read the book it was loosely based on.

For the money, I’m sure. I found the fourth one a bit confusing. It probably would have helped to have read the book first.
