Celebrate the Small Things is a weekly celebration created by VikLit and now hosted by Lexa Cain to celebrate the happenings of the week, however small or large. You can learn all about it and sign up for it here.
I can’t believe July is almost over. The summer is flying by way too fast. I have some great things to celebrate this weekend:
- A book-selling opportunity at the Bookstock Literary Festival in Woodstock, VT, this Saturday!
- My son’s birthday on Sunday!
And here are some pics from my Barnes & Noble book signing last weekend. I sold 8 books to family and friends and a few walk-in customers. Thank you!!
And this is what my kids were doing.
What other celebrations are going on out there?

Glad Barnes and Noble was a good event for you. Good luck at the library tomorrow and happy birthday to your son.

If you were able to sell books to strangers, it’s a huge win. That’s one of the hardest things about booksignings!!! I’ve been invited to do a reading at a B&N in a city two hours away at the end of August…I know no one! I’m going to try to do some marketing beforehand to hopefully get some teachers to send their students, but I’m already nervous about it.

I was really happy with how it went. I found it worked better to sit behind the table, rather than stand. When I stood around the table, customers would come in and think I was an employee of the store. They’d ask me where to find things, particularly the restrooms. What worked best for me was to sit near the front door where I could make eye contact with everyone who came in and smile and say Hi or How are you? Everyone, at least, acknowledged me, and quite a few of them came over to check out my book. Good luck with your signing!

I had two book signings and the only peeps to buy books were family & friends. Not even a stranger, so you’re doing great in my eyes!!!!! Congrats!!!
Have a nice weekend.

How exciting to have your own book signing. I’m finishing writing my first cozy mystery, hopefully by Dec. of this year. Then on to researching agents, etc. Congrats on the publishing success that you’ve enjoyed thus far. And, happy birthday to your son! Have a great weekend! http://www.dianeweidenbenner.com

Congratulations, Lori, Every book sold counts. We grow step by step and so is it with selling our books. It starts small and then grows.

Congrats on your B&N signing! I think it’s so cool that your book is faced out on the Staff Recommendations shelf, and it looks like you had a wonderful table. Your pic of your kids is sweet! I love it when I see my kids reading, too. 🙂
Eight books for a book signing is a good number. I’ve discovered that getting out there seems to make the biggest impact, and sometimes readers are shy of writers.

Thank you, Tyrean! I was so happy they did that with my books. Getting out there in person does seem to make a difference, and the people that have stopped to talk to me have been always been really nice.
