Today I’m very much enjoying the cooler air of fall! Spring and fall are my favorite seasons. It won’t be long before the leaves are turning in earnest and painting the hillsides in glorious color.
Celebrations for this week:
- VT Comic Con! I had mixed results at Comic Con last weekend. Sales weren’t stellar, but I did give out a lot of book cards for, hopefully, future purchases. I think the attendees were more looking to spend their money on comic/anime-related things. The good part was that several people recognized my books, having seen them either at local bookstores or when they popped up on Amazon as being similar to something they were buying. One person said her coworker had read my first book and enjoyed it, so she took a photo of the second book with her phone and sent it to her coworker to let her know there was a sequel. I thought that was pretty neat.
- The Champlain Valley Fair! So many things to enjoy — the rides, the entertainment, the animals and crafts, and the food! Maple frosted donuts, ice cream, and caramel apples! Yum! And then we went back in the evening a couple of days later to see the Double Figure 8 race and Demolition Derby, which my son loves.
- Getting back into a routine now that school has started. My kids may not be happy about being back in school, but I get a lot more done.
- The Mad River Valley Craft Fair coming up this weekend! This will be my first time participating as a vendor there, so we’ll see how it goes.

What amazing pics! I didn’t know they did demolition derbies anymore. Seems kinda dangerous to scaredy-cat me… The food sounds great though! I can always get behind food. LOL Even if you didn’t sell as many books as you hoped, you’re starting to get recognition and that’s half the battle. Good luck at the craft fair and have a lovely weekend!

Thanks, Lexa! Yes, they make me cringe when they’re deliberately smashing into each other. My son loves to watch them, though. He’d like to participate in the racing part of it. That makes me cringe, too.

Meeting someone who knows someone who read your book is definitely a huge plus! All writers who do events to sell books must figure out what works best for us. That means trying a lot of different things that end up not working to find those few things that do! (Plus, having a LOT of fun with it along the way!)

Great pictures! ComicCon is on my bucket list but haven’t hit it yet. It’s been so long since I’ve been to a demolition derby…I remember them being really, really loud. And how neat to have someone so excited about your book! Lots to celebrate 🙂

Lori, After tomorrow all schools will be back in session for another year. It’ll be nice to take some day trips to the mountains again without all the busy tourism that is until to the fall foliage crowd returns in October. Hey, I’d rather get a picture even if it isn’t the best just to preserve the memories. Your photos look fine and what fun it was to see some of the going-ons in your life. Have a nice, safe Labor Day and nice short week ahead! 🙂

Super jealous, as I’m dying to attend a comic con, but we can never afford the trip. However, there is a state fair my future. It’s great that people recognized your novels. Having someone send a picture to someone they knew is a fan of yours is a huge win.
