Celebrate the Small Things is a weekly celebration created by VikLit and now hosted by Lexa Cain to celebrate the happenings of the week, however small or large. You can learn all about it and sign up for it here.
The air is crisp, the leaves are turning, and it’s time to start thinking about Autumn and Halloween! This week I’m celebrating:
- I gave my daughter her first driving lesson, and she and I and the car emerged unscathed.
- That same daughter received an invitation to join the National Honor Society!
- I made my annual trip to IHOP to celebrate the kids going back to school!
- Tonight we’ll be going on a Ghost Walk Tour of the city of Burlington, VT. We’ll get to hear all about the ghostly history and spookiness of the city.

Time is the enemy.
In 1771, Alexia had everything: the man of her dreams, reconciliation with her father, even a child on the way. But she was never meant to stay. It broke her heart, but Alexia heeded destiny and traveled five hundred years back to stop the Soulless from becoming.
In the thirteenth century, the Holy Roman Church has ordered the Knights Templar to exterminate the Passionate, her bloodline. As Alexia fights this new threat—along with an unfathomable evil, and her own heart—the Soulless genesis nears. But none of her hard-won battles may matter if she dies in childbirth before completing her mission.
Can Alexia escape her own clock?

Ooh! I’d love to go on a ghost tour! Fall really is the best season, right? I mean, Halloween. How do you get better than Halloween?
My oldest is doing that “new driver” thing too, and it IS terrifying. I’m supposed to take him out next week. I’ll emphasize that this is a HIM. Granted he’s not a reckless individual, but he startles easy. How did you survive?

Halloween is always fun. My daughter was actually way more nervous than I was. We’re keeping it to empty parking lots for a while. My son, who just turned 15, can’t wait to drive. However, he wants to be a racecar driver so I told him he’s not driving my car until he’s 50.

Well technically, you can read the first book in the series and then read the third. It is, afterall, a time loop.

That ghost walk sounds like a total blast! I’d love to do something like that. We have an amusement park not too far away that does a whole Halloween theme that we love to visit. Scary!! I can’t wait to visit again this year.

The amusement park sounds like so much fun! You’d have to go in costume.

Oh that ghost walk sounds like fun! Had to laugh about the driving lesson. I’m still not sure how my dad and I survived mine.
Congrats to Crystal!

Ha, ha, yes, one of my dad’s favorite stories is how I was always heading for the ditch when he was teaching me to drive.

The idea of teaching my daughter to drive is terrifying. She hates listening to me and likes to do everything her own way (that is ideally different from mine). But there’s not much variation to work with on press the gas to go and the brake to stop. Oh boy. At least I have a couple more years before I have to deal with this.

Teaching young drivers is definitely not for the faint of heart. The only issue with the gas and brake is how hard they get pressed. Those jackrabbit starts and stops make things interesting. Good luck!

I’m loving Crystal’s cover – very well designed! Congrats to your daughter for National Honor Society and good luck to both of you as she becomes a member of the driving public! I’ve never been on a ghost tour. Waaaa!

Thanks, Lexa! I’m hoping the driving lessons continue to be uneventful. Maybe you could start a ghost tour yourself. A scary tour would be right up your alley.

I am the ghost tour QUEEN. Every time we go on vacation somewhere, a ghost tour is a must. We went to Savannah and Charleston on the same trip last year and I dragged my husband, sister, and brother-in-law on ghost tours in both cities! We just did the Gettysburg one on our vacation in July. They’re SO fun!

I hope you had a great ghost walk. Congratulations to your daughter! And to you, for surviving driving trip #1. I’m going to be mean and make my husband do the driver training; he’s way more patient than me.
And hi, Crystal!
