Now on to A to Z!

F is for — Princess Fiona from Dreamworks’ Shrek films A2Z-BADGE-0002015-LifeisGood-230_zps660c38a0

Princess Fiona starts out as the typical fairy tale heroine — the beautiful damsel in distress, trapped in a tower, awaiting a handsome prince to come to her rescue. In a creative twist to the story, Fiona’s “handsome prince” turns out to be an unhandsome, un-princely ogre named Shrek.

Fiona soon proves that she’s not what she seems, either. When surrounded by enemies, she shows off some pretty cool ninja moves, both as a human princess and as an ogress. In Shrek the Third, she organizes the other princesses and fights against Prince Charming and his minions, and in Shrek Forever After, she rescues herself from the tower and leads a band of rebel ogres against the evil Rumplestiltskin. No helpless damsel is she.

I also like how Fiona embraces her ogre side. She realizes that, for her, this is “love’s true form.” So what if she’s not the most beautiful in the land, or if she has to shave her face like Shrek, or if she makes rude noises like he does? She’s beautiful on the inside where it counts, and she’s found someone who loves her the way she is. And, most importantly, she’s happy just being herself. You don’t have to be the “fairest one of all” to have a happy ending.

Torn (Bound Trilogy: Book Two)

Aren Tiernal knows that safety is an illusion, that his cruel and powerful brother will never forgive his betrayal. Still, returning to Tyrea to challenge Severn for the throne would be suicide. It’s not until Severn himself comes to collect what’s owed to him that Aren decides to risk everything in an attempt to bring down the most powerful Sorcerer Tyrea has ever known. The mission seems doomed to fail, but it’s Aren’s only chance to save himself, his country, and the woman who thawed his heart.

Rowan Greenwood has troubles of her own. Though she should be a great Sorceress, years of being closed off from her magic have left her unable to control her incredible power. When a pair of ominous letters arrive from her home country, Rowan has to choose between her new life and a chance at saving her family—and just maybe changing an entire country’s beliefs about the evils of magic.

Torn apart by separate quests, Rowan and Aren will have to discover untapped strengths and confront their darkest fears in order to overthrow a ruler determined to destroy them both.

Celebrate the Small Things! And Loni Townsend’s Bucket List!

Celebrate the Small Things is a weekly celebration created by VikLit and now hosted by Lexa Cain to celebrate the happenings of the week, however small or large. You can learn all about it and sign up for it here. CelebrateSmallThings_Badge

Today I’m celebrating: Loni Townsend’s This World Bites Blog Tour!

ThisWorldBitesBlogTourBadge

Loni is stopping by today to share her hilarious Top Ten Bucket List. I still can’t read it without giggling. Enjoy!

Many thanks to Lori for letting me on her blog. She suggested my top 10 bucket lists for me and my character. It seems appropriate since her blog is Writing, Reading, and the Pursuit of Dreams.

With that, these are the top 10 dreams I want to pursue…with a bucket. (It is a bucket list after all.)

10. Become an awesome enough writer to get a Red Bull endorsement. Writing is a sport, isn’t it? (I’d drink a bucket of Red Bull!)

9. Attend a masquerade ball. (My husband offered to wear the bucket as his mask.)

8. Go sky diving. (I could catch the clouds in my bucket.)

7. Return to pole dancing.* (The dollar bills need to go somewhere, even if it’s only my husband handing them out.)

6. Actually pass the motorcycle skills test. Yeah… But hey, I got a 100% on the written. That has to count for something. (I’ll practice weaving around a row of buckets.)

5. Own a BRZ. Okay, so maybe I’m just fascinated that Toyota and Subaru would get together and build a sports car. I love both companies, and that’s really why I want the car. (With my leadfoot, my passengers might need the bucket for their stomach contents as I round the corners.)

4. Master a martial art. Any martial art would do. (Maybe there’s the art of bucket wielding.)

3. Build a dojo. (My bucket would hold the water I’d use to clean the floors.)

2. Spend at least a year living in Japan. (I would collect souvenirs in my bucket.)

1. Finish the remaining 3 books in the ninier series. (I can keep my printed copies in my bucket.)

*I’ve never professionally pole danced, I’ve only taken lessons. But I do have a pole in my living room. It’s an incredible whole-body workout.

Cera, my main character in This World Bites, has one goal in life: Find a cure for her father. It drives her to travel from world to world. Oh, she’d like other stuff–pursue dancing, find true love, save her world… But those are all trivial compared to saving her dad.

What are your goals? What would you do if you had a bucket?

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

It’s her first day on a new world and Cera’s already found trouble. Michael, her guardian, has been bitten by a zombie and will soon join the undead ranks.

Everyone tells her there’s no cure, but Cera isn’t one to be deterred. She’s willing to face off with zombie hordes, demon slavers, and black market informants if it means she’ll find a cure for Michael. But she’s not the only one hunting for something.

Something is hunting her.

Celebrate the Small Things! and New Book Release: The Quest for the Holy Something or Other

Celebrate the Small Things is a weekly celebration created by VikLit and now hosted by Lexa Cain to celebrate the happenings of the week, however small or large. You can learn all about it and sign up for it here. CelebrateSmallThings_Badge

I’ve learned a lot about patience this week. I keep running into delays and haven’t been able to set a firm release date for my novel. I guess the best way to look at it is that, since this book has been many years in the making, another couple of weeks or three won’t really matter in the grand scheme of things.

So, on to celebrations:

  1. We only got 5 inches of snow in that “monster” snowstorm that went up the east coast this past week. Of course, we got another 4 to 5 inches today, but that’s okay. I can take it better in small doses.
  2. Super Bowl Sunday this weekend! Per tradition, I get to spend time with my Dad watching the game.
  3. I wrote my first book review. Entering new territory here. And that review was for:

Kylie Betzner’s debut novel:

The Quest for the Holy Something or Other

Happy Release Day, Kylie!

The_Quest_small_coverEnter the Realm of Camelot, home of famous legends: King Arthur, Sir Lancelot, and Merlin–but this isn’t their story. Meet Pig, a humble gong farmer who dreams of the glories of Camelot. Her dreams become reality–or so she thinks–when she becomes Sir Kay’s page. What starts off as a joke soon becomes the adventure of Pig’s life when Merlin sends the knights on a quest for the Holy Gift Box–er–Bread Basket–whatever it is! On their quest, they face many knight-worthy, and some not-so-knight-worthy, foes: an insane pond dweller, several greedy salespeople, and an overzealous cache seeker, all the while fighting against time, mostly each other, and the most infamous villain of all—change. The Quest for the Holy Something or Other is a fresh and funny take on a well-known legend, with engaging characters, some rather good jokes, and something that starts with S, but it isn’t important.

Meet Kylie —

Kylie BetznerFor starters, I’m an incurable nerd. I love all things fantasy and even do a little cosplay on the side. I’m a natural-born comedian, self-identified coffee junkie, and now leader of The League of Comedy Fantasists! Did I forget to mention I’m an author? My first novel, The Quest for the Holy Something or Other is available now in both paperback and e-book formats! But seriously, the titles I am most proud of are sister, auntie, and friend.
Growing up in a small town surrounded by cornfields, I had nothing better to do than fantasize about unicorns and elves. As an adult, I still refuse to grow up, and spend most of my time creating stories of comedic fantasy. When I’m not writing, which is hardly ever, I enjoy reading, drinking coffee, and spending time with my family and friends. I also run, although I don’t enjoy it so much.
I currently reside in Indiana with my sister, nephew, horde of cats, and one very silly dog.
